Week 7, Wikis

Wiki is a Hawaiian word that means quick. A wiki is a social group that collaboratively develops a website on various topics to discuss and share information.

Anyone can add or edit, it is flexible and free. The down side is not everything posted is accurate, it can be based on opinion. Some wikis are disorganized due to the amount of users and not being centerally controlled. Depending on your personality, wikis may not be the internet tool for you. Since I am organized and enjoy socializing in small groups, this is not a tool that I would use personally, but I do like to visit and explore what has been created.

Libraries can use wikis as a marketing tool to promote their activities and resources. Libraries could post calendars, promote local and state events, online training, develop discussion groups, share resources on library topics, and build a social network with other libraries state/world wide.

I added a wiki comment to the allco23things FrontPage to complete this exercise.
